Heartwood Gathering Wrap Up

After a year of planning it was wonderful to see the Heartwood gathering come to life! This year was the biggest yet, with over 230 people attending Heartwood over the course of the weekend. Our hearts still feel full this weekend of plant inspired fun!

We arrived at the Ganaraska Forest Center Friday morning to a sunny day, and a group of enthusiastic volunteers playing Stella Ella Ola! After a day setting up the site we were so excited when the first people lined up for registration.

We are so grateful for Julie Bothwell and Alderville Frist Nation for welcoming us to this land, and sharing many teachings with us throughout the weekend, including some beautiful songs!

The weekend started with a bang, the Friday night Feverfew was a blast, we enjoyed the wild food and herbal elixir contest where we tried pickled Daylilies, Milkweed and Oxeye Daisies. The *what was that rose infused drink* and Jun, Lemon Balm syrup. We were lucky to catch Vita Bowen fire dancing!

Friday Night Feverfew! We enjoyed Tarot card readings, Astrology, music, fire                            and the wild foods and herbal elixir contest

Saturday and Sunday were full of a wide range of workshops on everything from root medicine, to fermentation, fire, plant spirit and so much more. We had a hard time picking which to attend, but loved hearing about everyones different experiences and what they learned.

One of our biggest highlights was Emily Ruff’s inspiring talk that left us all a little teary eyed about the power of herbs in response to tragedy. Her talk explored her experience responding to the Pulse Nightclub shooting and on the   Standing Rock Medic & Healer Council. She inspired us about the importance of community, and to share herbs in a good way, always meeting people where they are at.

Another highlight of the weekend was the incredible food. Thanks to Ina, Rita and the kitchen team for keeping our bellies full with oodles of fresh veggies to keep us energized all weekend!

We are looking forward to seeing both familiar and new faces at next years Heartwood August 10-12th 2018 at the Ganaraska Forest Center!
